Leading the Network of the Future
Innovation, Efficiency, and Execution
The future of connectivity lies at the intersection of innovation and sustainability. As Chief Network Officer at Comcast, I’m proud of how we continue to transform our network to increase performance, drive energy efficiency, and deliver meaningful outcomes for our customers and communities.
Network evolution
Over the past several years, we’ve been executing one of the most ambitious network evolutions in our company’s history: our symmetrical multi-gigabit network upgrade powered by the latest advancements in DOCSIS® 4.0 technology. This isn’t just about faster speeds. It’s about building a smarter, AI operated, self-healing network that can scale alongside demand, support emerging innovation, and operate responsibly well into the future.
We’re doing this through strategic investments in virtualization, automation, and AI. By moving more of our network functions to the cloud, we gain the agility to deploy enhancements faster and more effectively while reducing the need for hardware upgrades in the field. The result is a virtualized, software-driven platform that delivers greater symmetry, faster speeds with lower lag, and more resiliency. Already, we’ve rolled out multi-gigabit symmetrical speeds in more than 40 markets across the country, demonstrating how fiber and DOCSIS, working in tandem, can evolve to meet the digital demands of tomorrow.
Thanks to automation, many network issues are resolved behind the scenes before customers are impacted. Leveraging AI helps us respond in real-time to improve network reliability, deliver the highest quality experience and optimize the performance of every connected device. Today 77 percent of our network platform events are self-healed before they impact our customers, and as we expand our AI agents across more network use cases, we will be able to drive even better reliability across our network.
Commitment to sustainable growth
At the same time, we’re holding ourselves accountable for growing the network sustainably. Between 2019 and 2024, overall network traffic across Comcast grew by 76 percent. During that same period, we reduced the energy consumed per petabyte of data by 49 percent. That kind of efficiency isn’t incidental: It’s intentional, and it’s a direct result of making energy performance a key part of our network strategy.
Our progress in this area is significant as the demand on network infrastructure continues to rise. With the growing ubiquity of smart homes, live streaming entertainment, cloud-based gaming, remote work, and connected healthcare, to name a few, connectivity is essential to modern life. The infrastructure supporting it must be not only fast and reliable but also future-ready and environmentally responsible.
Ultimately, we’re building more than a network. As we integrate advanced telemetry, real-time analytics, machine learning and generative and agentic AI into every layer of the network, we’re not just improving customer experience; we’re redefining what a broadband network can do. Whether it’s enabling gigabit-plus speeds in a suburban neighborhood or supporting advanced enterprise services for large-scale campuses, we’re building an intelligent, flexible, and sustainable platform for the decades to come.
It’s easy to take connectivity for granted. It’s often invisible until it doesn’t work. That’s why our team wakes up every day thinking about how to keep our network ahead of customer expectations and technological change. We are dedicated to staying ahead of the curve—anticipating what’s next, designing with intention, and delivering with precision. The work is complex, and the mission is clear: deliver a network that meets today’s needs while enabling future possibilities.
Building the future today
The future isn’t just on the horizon; we’re building it today. This means leading its design with innovation, integrity, and the infrastructure to deliver what’s next sustainably, reliably, and in service to the communities we connect. And, as those communities continue to evolve and expand, so does our commitment to keeping them connected to the moments that matter most.
