The Return of a Live, In-Person Expo®

By Mark Dzuban

After two years of hugely successful virtual events, SCTE® Cable-Tec Expo® is rapidly approaching on our horizon and we are excitedly preparing to descend on the city of brotherly love to host the world of broadband in Philadelphia!

On Tuesday morning at 7:30 a.m., Comcast, Liberty Global and SCTE will be hosting an Exhibitor Appreciation Breakfast to thank our vendor community. Our exhibitors have continued to support Expo, even when we were not able to assemble safely under one roof, and we are thrilled to support them with a special invitation-only event before they take to the show floor, as we all return to an in-person Expo at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.

As the preeminent venue for thought leadership, engineering innovation and dealmaking within the broadband industry, Expo 2022 will be co-chaired by industry leaders Comcast President and CEO David Watson and Liberty Global Vice-Chairman and CEO Michael Fries. CableLabs President and CEO Phil McKinney and I will be hosting Dave and Mike for a fireside chat to help kick off the General Session. And Comcast’s Charlie Herrin will share his vision of the future of CX. Our keynote speaker is currently under wraps, but we can all look forward to a lively presentation spotlighting 10G on the road to the metaverse.

Like you, I am greatly looking forward to attending Expo in person this year. Once again, we will bring together content and service providers, technology and association partners, industry experts, innovators, and educators at every level under one roof to learn, network and shape the future of connectivity. Expo 2022 will share transformative technologies and thought leadership unparalleled across the industry.

Written exclusively for Broadband Library, check out the special Expo preview from Expo 2022 Program Committee co-chairs Sherita Ceasar, Comcast Cable SVP of Technology, Environments & Strategy and Bill Warga, Vice President of Strategy and Technology at Liberty Global. They provide a rundown of some of the speakers and sessions assembled to showcase an industry committed to “Creating Infinite Possibilities,” the theme for this year’s event.

Also in this issue, CableLabs Vice President of Wired Technologies Curtis Knittle digs into the innovation behind one of the biggest buzzwords in our industry in his article, “10Galore.” Spoiler alert, winners of the 10G Challenge will be announced at Expo and “10G Avenue” makes its debut.

SCTE Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer Chris Bastian breaks down some of the featured workshops on the program for this year’s Fall Technical Forum, which seems to grow each year. Packed with 57 sessions across 13 tracks, this year’s forum introduces “Software Development, Automation and Tooling” and “DevOps and Agile” as new tracks and includes a dedicated “Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning” track in response to popular demand.

Last but certainly not least, SCTE Director of Learning Operations Jill Banks shares insights on what’s in store for the L&D Experience as well as a brief history lesson on the International Cable-Tec Games. Both have become favorite Expo traditions for many, as we celebrate today’s workers as they engage in a skills competition like no other and explore innovative training technologies and prioritize upskilling the workforce of tomorrow.

Last year, I was inspired that we were able to bring Expo attendees together safely in a virtual event with such a high level of engagement that really demonstrated the flexibility and resiliency of our industry. This year, I am ecstatic to bring our global cable and technology communities together in person at Expo 2022. Work is already underway planning for our return to Denver, CO for Expo 2023.

I look forward to seeing you at Expo, September 19-22 in Philadelphia, PA.
