SCTE® Cable-Tec Expo® 2022 to Showcase Innovators Who are Creating Infinite Possibilities
By Sherita Caesar and Bill Warga
As co-chairs of the SCTE® Cable-Tec Expo® 2022 Program Committee, we are beyond excited to welcome you all to Philadelphia for the first in-person Cable-Tec Expo in three years! Our industry is truly “Creating Infinite Possibilities” to keep pace with ever increasing demands for connectivity, which is why that has been selected as the theme for this year’s event.
It’s been a while since we assembled in person, so if you know anyone who still hasn’t registered to attend, here is a quick refresher on why they should attend Expo 2022.
We connect thousands of industry professionals from across the globe, serve up over 100 hours of learning with premier thought leaders, and will showcase exhibitors from the entire tech ecosystem offering hands-on access to technology and dialogue with innovators. We bring together the industry’s executive level decision makers and technology experts.
General Session
This year, the General Session includes a Fireside Chat with Expo 2022 co-chairs, hosted by CableLabs President and CEO Phil McKinney and SCTE President and CEO Mark Dzuban.
The technology that the cable industry collectively develops enables every experience that relies on broadband connectivity. We have designed a dynamic General Session for Expo 2022 to give you a glimpse of what’s next in the evolution of broadband. You won’t want to miss hearing from this year’s co-chairmen, Comcast Cable President and CEO, David Watson, and Liberty Global Vice-Chairman and CEO, Michael Fries. Charlie Herrin, president of technology, product and experience at Comcast Cable, will present a compelling vision of how the industry’s world-class platforms continue to evolve customer experiences across the globe. To round out the session we have a lively guest keynote speaker who will help us visualize how 10G will pave the way to the metaverse.
Fall Technical Forum Focus
The Fall Technical Forum is packed with exceptional content, featuring 127 papers organized into 13 tracks to help you customize your experience. Join us to investigate the latest developments in 10G, DOCSIS 4.0, and artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML). Dive into the convergence of networks and services, the Internet of Things (IoT), and full-stack security. And discover developments in enhanced video, Wi-Fi, and fixed wireless access.
In addition to the inclusion of a dedicated track exploring AI/ML, two new tracks make their debut at Expo this year: DevOps and Agile and Software Development, Automation and Tooling.
Details for all 57 Fall Technical Forum sessions are available at expo.scte.org. The lineup is as far-reaching as it is fascinating. Here are a dozen session titles to spark your interest:

The Road to 10G
We all know the 10G Platform-based network is bringing higher Internet access speeds, more security, lower latency and improved reliability. This new, powerful broadband network serves as a platform for innovators to develop new solutions that impact the way we live, work, learn and play. Designed by CableLabs to support these developing technologies, services and applications that rely on the network of the future, the 10G Challenge reaches its culmination at Expo 2022.
10G Challenge finalists will be lining the corridor to the Innovation Theater this year as “10G Avenue” makes its Expo debut. Attendees will be flanked by a collection of some of the world’s most innovative technology companies who are paving the way on the road to 10G. Challenge winners will be announced during Expo 2022.
Expo 2022 Offers Exponentially More
Shining a spotlight on the excellent work being done in workforce development that is happening throughout the cable broadband industry, the SCTE Annual Awards Luncheon takes place on Wednesday, September 21. We look forward to learning about the distinguished honorees as they receive recognition in eight categories: Excellence in Learning & Development Award, Excellence in Standards Award, International Engineering Professional Award, Innovators Award, Member of the Year Award, Wilt J. Hildenbrand Jr. Award, Senior Member and the SCTE Hall of Fame.
“Infinite Learning — Inspire, Motivate, & Cultivate” is the theme for this year’s L&D Experience, co-chaired by Rich LaPat and Agnes Francis-Adolphine, director of learning & implementation at Cox Communications. Participants will take part in a live, interactive session focused on how to motivate and inspire learning during times of evolution while keeping learners engaged. Attendees will learn to navigate changing demands and stay connected with their business and learner needs, and take away some tools of the trade that will help move their organizations forward.
There are also a half-dozen sessions on the program for Expo 2022 which will be conducted in Spanish, curated to provide additional content for the growing Latin American and South American contingents.
Of course, no in-person Expo would be complete without The International Cable-Tec Games! Broadly known as the ‘big game of telecommunications’, the annual competition among cable system personnel centered on technical tasks has been a part of SCTE’s Cable-Tec Expo since 1991. The medallions awarded in the Games are symbolic of the training that creates winners in the workplace.
Expo 2022’s programs have been carefully collated to help our industry accelerate the deployment of technology and drive business results. We look forward to connecting in person in Philadelphia to network, collaborate and continue creating infinite possibilities!
