AMPHENOL BROADBAND SOLUTIONS (Advertorial)

In the fast-paced environment of broadband communications, a simple approach to the creation and growth of networks is highly desirable. Strategic suppliers can help broadband service providers by bringing entire solutions to the table from a variety of technical disciplines. Such vendors draw on deep experience and broad knowledge to assist providers in meeting the growing demands of a bandwidth-hungry market.

Amphenol Broadband Solutions (ABS) is one such strategic supplier, bringing a comprehensive portfolio of products and services. This was not always the case, however. Up until the recent past, each Amphenol company had worked separately with service providers to create products that would meet a particular need. While this led to exciting innovative products such as new xWDM devices, fiber enclosures that simplified FTTX installations and an award-winning DOCSIS passive device, the company realized that individual products could not always fully meet a service provider’s needs.

With this realization, the company underwent a fundamental transformation in our approach to the market. The new paradigm placed the customers, and their broad challenges, at the forefront of everything that ABS does. While the same innovative experts who had created and manufactured products under the old business model still exist, they now work as a cohesive team to address the larger problems associated with running a network. The primary difference for the customer is that now, instead of dealing with multiple sales and support organizations, ABS provides a single point of contact that brings an entire product solution from headend to premises.

Until recently, a gap existed in the company’s offering of a complete solution, that being a comprehensive and proven line of environmental outdoor enclosure solutions. Amphenol filled this void in April of this year with the addition of Charles Industries. Charles rounds out the ABS offering with a comprehensive line of outside plant (OSP) solutions. The company’s five manufacturing locations, all based in the USA, produce environmental housings and enclosures that are ruggedized for the harsh environments found in the wireless, telecom and broadband service markets.

For 50+ years, Charles has been solely focused on the outside plant portion of networks, garnering immense experience, knowledge and credibility from the largest carrier customers in North America. Adding to ABS’s full line of fiber, copper and wireless solutions, Charles designs and manufactures innovative metallic and non-metallic enclosures, pedestals and housings that protect critical infrastructure, revenue generating equipment and connections.

Among the expanded solutions now offered by Amphenol Broadband Solutions are fiber enclosures, below-grade enclosures and active electronic enclosures:

  • Fiber
  • Hubs — OSP cabinet hubs (72 thru 576 port), pedestal hubs (72 thru 288 port), and wall-mount hubs (16 thru 384 port)
  • Fiber distribution pedestals with multiple levels of environmental protection and architecture applications — (splice, interconnect, sealed MST)
  • Multi-purpose housings for above grade splice and slack storage
  • Below-grade enclosures for fiber distribution, electric utility and hydro utilities
  • Composite pads that accelerate the deployment of cabinets and hub cabinets. Reducing construction cycle from a week to a single day with service turn-up
  • Active electronic enclosures
  • Fiber backhaul and beyond
  • Wireless macro enclosures for RF, power, and batteries
  • 4G and 5G small cell concealment

In short, the addition of Charles’ products to the ABS family of products has expanded our reach into the outside plant environment, broadening our presence in next generation 5G wireless networks and upcoming fiber to the node-business-home-premise (FTTX) space, enhancing Amphenol’s position as a strategic supplier to our growing list of customers worldwide.
