The Power of Connection

Past, Present, and Intrapreneurial Future

The Cable Center has long served as the industry’s central connector. In 2023, we fully embraced that identity by adopting the name Syndeo Institute—Syndeo, the Greek word for “to connect.” With this evolution, we are deepening our exploration of what it truly means to connect and how that purpose shapes our mission and supports the people we serve across a growing and ever-changing industry ecosystem.

Syndeo Institute exists to bring people together, steward our collective industry history, and help individuals understand their place within the broader story and culture of connectivity and communications. At its core, Syndeo is about forging meaningful connections across time, linking the past, present, and future for educational and legacy purposes. We believe there is lasting value in connecting the industry’s entrepreneurial beginnings with its intrapreneurial future, and these connection points resonate deeply with our students, constituents, and industry leaders alike.

Connecting to our past

We are proud of our custodial responsibility to the Barco Library and the Edward D. Breen Technical Archives. The library houses a unique collection of books, personal papers, periodicals, corporate records, photos, and videos. Included is our Hauser Oral History Collection that encapsulates over 400 remarkable stories from the cable operators, programmers, engineers, financiers, and content creators who were the architects of the connectivity and content industry and continue to inspire its future. We’ve spent decades gathering the video and audio stories of these visionaries and leaders whose personal anecdotes and experiences add a new dimension to our history. This is the only collection of its kind and new stories are added every year.

The Breen Technical Archives is a unique collection showcasing the evolution of the cable industry through the lens of technological innovation. Featuring more than 2,500 pieces of equipment, the exhibit captures how the industry has adapted, advanced, and transformed over time and offers a tangible narrative of both technical progress and documentation.

Another important and special feature of our collection is the Cable Hall of Fame exhibit, which spotlights the remarkable contributors and leaders who have had significant impact growing the connectivity industry.

Connecting to now and what’s next

What does Syndeo’s role as a connector look like within an ever-evolving, increasingly complex ecosystem? It starts with our responsibility to support those new to the industry, transitioning into new roles, or rising as future leaders regardless of where they sit within their organizations. Through the Intrapreneurship Academy, we equip them with the practical skills and adaptive mindset needed to lead with confidence and agility.

We also champion the multipotentialites on your teams, those naturally curious, highly motivated individuals who thrive on learning, adapt quickly, and draw from diverse disciplines to create innovative solutions. By tapping into their potential, we help organizations unlock new possibilities and remain resilient amid change.

This year, we introduced the Innovation & Intrapreneurship Award for Excellence to recognize and celebrate visionaries who turn bold ideas into reality, push boundaries, challenge the status quo, and go above and beyond to drive meaningful and positive change. They are in the trenches and strive to make an outsized impact from within their organizations in the here and now while focusing on the future.

Connecting it all

At Syndeo Institute at The Cable Center, connection is more than a concept, it’s our calling. We connect people to purpose, past to future, and ideas to action. As our industry evolves, so too does our role: honoring the legacy that shaped us while empowering the innovators who will define what’s next. Whether through preserving history, building leadership capacity, or celebrating intrapreneurial excellence, we remain steadfast in our mission to serve as the connective tissue of this dynamic industry. Together, we’re not just witnessing change—we’re shaping it.
