Beyond These Walls: Honoring a Legacy While Building What Comes Next
For decades, The Cable Center has served as a place where our industry gathers to learn, connect, and lead. Within its walls, ideas were exchanged, history was preserved, and a community was built that continues to shape the broadband ecosystem today.
Now, we are taking a deliberate step forward.
The sale of The Cable Center building to the University of Denver has been completed. This milestone reflects a clear focus on the future of our mission and how we best serve a rapidly evolving industry.
The building has played an important role in our story, and it holds deep meaning for many across our community. Generations of leaders, innovators, and supporters have walked through its doors, contributing to the legacy we are proud to steward today.
That history matters. And it will continue to guide us.
At the same time, what defines Syndeo Institute at The Cable Center has never been just the building. It has always been the people, the ideas, and the leadership that bring our mission to life.
This decision reflects our responsibility as stewards to balance both, honoring the past while ensuring we are positioned to serve the industry well into the future.
Proceeds from the transaction will support the endowment, strengthening our long-term financial foundation and expanding our capacity to deliver on our mission. This is not unrestricted operating revenue, and it does not replace the need for philanthropic support. We will remain a lean organization and will continue fundraising to support our programs, steward our legacy, and serve the industry with discipline and care.
What changes is not our purpose, but how we deliver on it.
As we move forward, Syndeo Institute at The Cable Center will transition into a new temporary space that will support our operations over the next two years. During this time, a dedicated committee of industry leaders will work closely with the board and executive leadership to evaluate and define the organization’s long-term physical presence.
This approach ensures that our next step is thoughtful, strategic, and aligned with the needs of the industry we serve.
Freed from the responsibilities of managing a large physical facility, we have the opportunity to focus more fully on the work that matters for our future. That includes expanding initiatives such as our AI-powered oral history project, preserving the voices and experiences that have shaped this industry while making them accessible in new and meaningful ways. It also enables us to elevate thought leadership, convene critical conversations, and engage a broader set of voices across the broadband ecosystem.
In many ways, this evolution mirrors the industry itself. Broadband has always been defined by change, from early cable systems to today’s intelligent, converged networks. Progress requires both honoring what came before and building toward what comes next.
Earlier this spring, we gathered with industry leaders, longtime supporters, and friends of Syndeo Institute at The Cable Center for an evening titled Beyond These Walls: Honoring Our Past, Shaping Our Future. The conversation offered an opportunity to reflect on the legacy built within this space and to share a forward-looking vision for the organization.
Later in April, we convened the industry once again in New York for the Cable Hall of Fame, celebrating the leaders whose contributions continue to shape our field. That same day, we hosted Inside the Transformation: Media and Connectivity at an Inflection Point, a private leadership forum at the Paley Center for Media. The discussion brought together senior leaders including The Hon. Cory Gardner, Mike Fries, Chris Winfrey, Kristin Dolan, and others, along with a special virtual conversation with Dr. John Malone, to explore the forces reshaping media and connectivity and the strategies defining the industry’s next chapter.
Together, these moments reflect both where we have been and where we are going.
More importantly, they reinforce a simple truth: The strength of Syndeo Institute at The Cable Center has always been its community.
That community continues to guide us.
As we look ahead, our commitment remains clear. We will preserve the history of this industry, elevate the voices shaping its future, and serve as a trusted platform for connection, insight, and leadership.
The building has been an important chapter in our story. What comes next will ensure that story continues to grow, evolve, and serve the industry for generations to come.
